Fall 21-22 Plans

Valley Charter Elementary School and Valley Charter Middle School will be opening for full-time, in-person instruction on August 18th, 2021.

Absence Protocols this fall
  • If you keep your child home for reasons not related to symptoms of COVID-19, please follow normal absence procedures.
  • If you keep your child home because of symptoms related to COVID-19 (fever of 100 degrees or greater, a new cough, sore throat, diarrhea or vomiting are the most common symptoms but cold symptoms also apply) then you will need to contact the school office. To return to school will require either a negative PRC COVID test result or a note from your doctor verifying that the symptoms are not COVID related.
  • There is a gray area with COVID-related symptoms, so if we ask you to err on the safe side based on your child’s symptoms, please understand that we have the collective health and safety of all of our community members in mind.
  • Students will NOT be placed into IS for absences that fall into this category.
  • Please note that all COVID tests must be PCR tests (not rapid/Antigen tests, even if lab-based).

COVID Testing Registration Links-please register if you have not done so
This year will be partnering with IHD labs for our FREE COVID testing.
Families will need to sign up for each student at each school using the appropriate link below:

Registration link tips:
  • You will only need to register your students once using the link.
  • The majority of registration questions asks for information you are already familiar with and/or have provided before to VCS in school registration packets or for previous COVID-19 testing.
  • We have provided a short document to help you answer the Insurance Information section if needed.
  • Once you complete registration you will receive a QR code by text and/or email depending upon your selected method(s) of receiving information.

General COVID-19 Testing Information & Schedule for the early fall
  • This year will be partnering with IHD labs for our FREE COVID testing. Families do not need to provide insurance information so that the cost can be billed to the CARES act, not the school.
  • This test will be a nasal swab administered by a nurse (the swab that goes mid-way up the nose, not all the way!).
  • All students will need to participate.
  • Test results will be received within 24 hours/the next day.

Weekly testing at VCES will begin Monday beginning August 23rd

  • For parents/guardians who would like to be present, please come between 7:30am-8:00am; if you would like to be present, please park in the front parking lot and enter through the main gate.
  • For parents/guardians who give consent for your child to be tested without you present, drop your child off at the regular arrival time; all students will be tested with their class groups, with their classroom teacher present.
  • We strongly encourage parents to provide consent to make the testing process as efficient as possible.

Weekly testing at VCMS every Wednesday beginning August 25th

  • On August 25th everyone at each VCMS site will be tested.
  • Moving forward, we will alternate testing weekly on Wednesdays at each site.
  • For parents/guardians who would like to be present, please come between 8:00-8:30.
  • For parents/guardians who give consent, drop your child off at the regular arrival time; all students will be tested in their class groups, with a teacher present.
  • We strongly encourage parents to provide consent to make the testing process as efficient as possible.

The schedule and volume of testing will be revisited every 6 weeks to determine if changes need to be made based on the public health context.
