VCES Summer Playdate Information

VCMS Summer Bridge Information for Attending Students

Important Details for the VCMS Summer Program- please read carefully =

Location: 6952 Van Nuys Boulevard (7th and 8th grade site)

Dates: The program will run from Monday, June 15 – Friday, June 26 (no school on 6/19 in honor of Juneteenth)

Daily Schedule: The daily schedule will be from 8:00 am-12:30 pm; breakfast and lunch will be served daily. Breakfast will be served between 8:00am-8:10am and lunch will be served between 12:05-12:30. If your child does not want to eat lunch, they can be picked up at 12:00pm.

Arrival & Pick-up: In the morning students can arrive from the carpool lane on Van Nuys boulevard or at the walk-up gate on Van Nuys Boulevard beginning at 7:50am. The gates will close at 8:10. In the afternoon: Parents can drive through the carpool lane on Van Nuys Boulevard or wait at the walk-up gate on Van Nuys Boulevard to pick their child up. If your student is able to walk home independently, you should have selected that on the summer program registration form.

Lateness: If your child is late, an adult must come inside the office and sign your child in for the day. For lateness, the student must also turn their cell phone to the main office.

What to bring: Your child should bring a backpack, notebook, writing utensils, and a refillable water bottle.

After-care: Students are able to transition to the LA All Stars program until 5pm for each day of the VCMS summer program.

AFTER-CARE NOTE: New families should come into the office to fill out an application.

The academic program:

Your child will take the following classes during the summer program:

Math with Mr. Coleman
English language arts with Ms. Reese and Mr. Ruiz
Art with Ms. Termini (this is a collaboration with the ELA teachers to foster literacy skills)

Information for TK/Kindergarten families

Save the Date: TK/Kindergarten Family Orientation is August 5th from a 6-7pm on the VCES campus.

Information about the first day of school for TK/Kindergarten students and families:

The first day for TK/Kindergarten students is a short day from 8:05-9:30 (TK), or 8:05-9:45 (Kindergarten).
Drop off is between 7:30-8:05.
Parents are invited to walk their child on to campus and stay for a classroom visit beginning at 8:05.
After parents have visited classrooms:
- Stay and meet other TK/Kindergarten parents in the courtyard from 8:30-9:30
- OR leave and come back to pick up your student by 9:30 (TK) or 9:45 (Kindergarten) at the classroom doors.

Remember:

There is no back-to-school supply list at Valley Charter! Our generous yearly family support enables us to provide all supplies that students will need in each classroom.
Please send your student to school every day with a water bottle and a snack.
Hot lunch will be provided to students OR they can bring lunch from home. Click here for the school menus (updated at the beginning of each month).

Please note: The school offices will be closed from July 1st-7th.

Save the date: VCES Meet the Teachers is August 10th from 3:30-5:00pm in the VCES courtyard.

At Meet the Teachers, VCES families will receive their student’s 2026-27 teacher and room assignments. VCES teachers will be at the event to meet families, and we will also provide information and sign-ups for future school events.
If you are unable to attend this event, please drop by the office for your student’s teacher/room assignment anytime between 8:00am-4pm on August 11th or 12th.

Save the date: VCMS Student Orientation is August 11th.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 12th and it is a MINIMUM DAY.

VCES school start time is 8:05am, early dismissal at 1:00pm.
VCMS school start time is 8:30am (SW), 8:25am (VNB), early dismissal at 1:25 (SW), 1:20 (VNB).

Please send your child to school on the first day with a backpack, water bottle, snack and lunch (if they'd like to bring them from home, otherwise the school will provide these items). Yearly fundraising covers the costs of school supplies for each student.
