Reading and Writing Workshop Bill of Rights at Valley Charter Middle School

All students are entitled to experience units of study and the workshop model: teaching point, mini-lesson, independent work, and a closing session during ELA blocks every day!

Each student will use a reading and writing notebook regularly to support their growth as readers and writers.

Each student is entitled to a high-success daily reading experience of 20 minutes or more during  school and approximately 45 minutes of  time at home with a book of their choice each day.

All students will take ownership of their daily reading through the use of their reading logs and readers’ notebooks to reflect on their growth through the exploration of various book genres.

Every student is entitled to have intentional speaking and sharing opportunities to practice and apply the habits of good readers and writers with their peers.

All students are entitled to regular conference sessions with their ELA teacher.
