Valley Charter Elementary » Volunteer

Valley Charter Elementary School is proud of our invested and involved parent community.  We know that each family has different talents, resources, and time to contribute and we welcome all of the different ways VCES parents support their children and our larger community.

The Beautification Committee improves the VCES campus by organizing clean up days, greening up outdoor spaces, and providing necessary repairs around the school. This committee has flexibility as work can often be done on your own time. There is not a lot of meeting time required on this committee.
The Communications Committee creates and manages content that supports our school committees and communicates with our families, prospective families, donors, and partners. Sub-committees include VCES Website, eBlast, Yearbook, and Marketing Materials. Volunteer opportunities abundant for photography, videography, writing, webmaster, editing, graphic design, printing, sponsorship, and marketing experience. Great ideas welcome, too.
Fundraising is a large committee whose main goal is to achieve the fundraising objective (in fun and inspired ways) set forth by the Board of Directors in our annual school budget. Sub-committees include Annual Giving, Annual Fundraiser, and Laps for Learning Jog-a-thon. This vibrant committee offers all kinds of volunteering opportunities and meets monthly.
The Hospitality Committee supports many of the events at VCES, including Welcome Picnic, Back To School Night, Teacher Appreciation, Principal and Parent/Faculty Council Meetings, Open House, and some of the Fundraising and Special Events. Hospitality also ensures support for families during challenging times. Volunteer work includes assisting with events as needed, food purchasing and preparation, set up and clean up, delivering meals, and overall creating a feeling of welcome for both our community and those who visit VCES.
The Hot Lunch Committee serves a daily hot lunch to the students of VCES. Set up is at 11:30 a.m., and services finish by 1:00 p.m. Parents are asked to commit to a minimum of two lunches each month during the school day. Please Make sure you are available during the school day to serve on this committee.
The Merchandising Committee is responsible for creating the design of each year’s new T-Shirt, copying and distributing T-Shirt forms, collecting forms and entering into the spreadsheet, counting checks and cash and entering into the spreadsheet, picking up shirts from our supplier, distributing T-Shirts once they have arrived, and accepting T-Shirt orders at the Back to School night.
The Outreach Committee's main goal is to create a highly diverse student population at VCES. Volunteering involves reaching out to new communities, building partnerships, assisting with school tours, orientation meetings, and various outreach events. Spanish speakers and those who have ties to various ethnic communities are much needed, and parents have great social and communication skills. We could really use some help on this committee with people who have a marketing and outreach background.
Room Parents help teachers pass on important information to the classroom. It is important to have good organizational skills and to be able to work effectively with the other room parents so that the work is divided in a manner that works for all room parents. Most communications are done through email. As a room parent, you will check in with the teachers regarding communicating and forward the necessary information to parents or the chair. You will be asked to help organize classroom events/celebrations. You will assist in December with the school-wide gift collection for teachers and staff; organize the end-of-the-year gifts for teachers.
The Social Media Committee helps make sure that we share all the amazing work we do at VCES on our social media pages.  This committee works closely with school leadership, teachers, and other committees to gather content, update the community on important upcoming events, and share out the amazing classroom and community experiences that we share.
The Special Events Committee fosters a sense of community, school spirit, and FUN through non-fundraising community events. Volunteer efforts include chairing events, planning activities, soliciting donations, making decorations, promoting events, planning menus/making food, securing entertainment/speakers, and volunteering at the event. It is our goal to help make the experience at VCES a fun one for students and families.
